Rendezvous with Chabomzie
By Faridul Anwar Farinordin
IT is not easy to be Chabomzie, the mouse detective who is
on a mission to solve a mystery behind the disappearance of
billionaire Dr Robinson, in a whodunit SMS-based game by Hotlink
from Maxis.
Just ask our player Mohd Faizal Fadhilah, in his 20s, from
Kuala Lumpur and he will tell you that playing Chabomzie
demands good strategy, quick thinking and shrewdness.
"This is to make sure you don't 'die' easily. There
are bad characters who are out to ruin your investigation,"
said Faizal who spends two hours every morning trying to
solve the mystery.
In the game, Chabomzie meets other suspects of this puzzling
crime, namely the billionaire's wife, maid, butler, guard,
driver and gardener as well as killer predators who see
him as a meal!
"Also be careful of tricky clues as they could turn
out to be traps," warned another player, Tan Choo Yee,
22, from Penang.
A fan of detective movies, Tan even drafted out his strategies
in order not to miss out any clues and documented his steps
while going through the levels.
This is because the crime takes place in a huge mansion
with vast surroundings. While some sections bring you to
food items like cheese, others lead to your premature "death."
"But don't be afraid to explore every nook and cranny,"
advised 23-year-old Alice Koo from Kuching, another player
who grew up with the classic detective board game Cluedo.
Claiming the clues are hard to find, Koo said Chabomzie
is one of the most difficult detective game she has ever
played. She spends seven hours a day solving the mystery.
And when you have found the clues, she warned, don't make
hasty decisions in order to complete the investigation.
"Read each clue carefully and don't miss anything.
You'll never know what valuable information may surface
to help you solve the mystery!" she said.
Players who "die" during any phase of the game
can always restart and continue from where they last dropped
off, as the game is saved automatically.
Those who complete all the 20 levels without missing a
clue and can name the culprits behind the crime will walk
away with RM10,000 cash prize, two Nokia 5510 handphones,
two Nokia 3310 handphones and 10 Hotlink Top Up Tickets
worth RM60 each.
But wait. There are bonus prizes for YouthQuake readers
who try out the game. Just answer two questions correctly
on this page and complete the slogan.
Apart from the cool cash prize, YQ winners will also be
eligible for 10 Hotlink top-up tickets worth RM100 and 10
Hotlink top-up tickets worth RM60 each. Don't forget to
include your personal details.
A prize-giving ceremony for the lucky YQ contest winners
will be held at the NST office after their names have been
announced two weeks after the closing date.
Chabomzie can only be played by Hotlink and Maxis subscribers.
