Creating an Internet experience via mobile phones
STRANDED in a foreign place with nothing to do ? You will be all right as long as you have a mobile
phone.
This was probably one of the very thoughts that got MonsterMob CEO Martin Higginson, 41, started
on his thriving, multi-million dollar mobile content business.
"While on a trip to Finland, I saw kids downloading ring tones and this got me thinking, in time to
come, the mobile would be able to offer everything the Internet offers, this got me very excited," said
the Lancaster-based entrepreneur.
Higginson founded MonsterMob in 2000, after being involved in several
businesses, including publishing and technology plays.
Today, MonsterMob is a leading mobile content provider globally. Since
the company's foundation, MonsterMob has handled over 20 million
transactions, delivering products and services to more than six million
consumers.
"What I love about this industry is the fact that the mobile will, in the next
few years, revolutionise the way many people communicate. For many, it
will be their first touch of technology, to be involved in this space at this
critical time is extremely exciting.
"In the near future, people will be using their mobiles to listen to music, watch movies, play games,
even chat globally.
"What drives me is the knowledge that I have the ability to change the way people do things -
delivering something people cannot live without, before they actually know they need it," he added.
Married with three children, the self-confessed workaholic cites passion and conviction as two things
important to succeed in an industry such as this.
"Only when you believe in your products and services, can you make other people believe in them,"
he said.
So, what does a workaholic do to de-stress?
"I have run a few marathons, but they're nothing really, I am just a pretty boring workaholic," he
jested.
